Energy Recovery Ventilation System for Radon Mitigation and Room Air Purification
Situate pallet of components as close to the work area as practical.
Seal floor cracks, sump pump holes, other sources of ground gas in the regular way.
Identify the optimal location for the ERV unit, considering: location of the discharge vent pipe placement; centrality to the majority of the basement or room, routing inbound and outbound 6 inch ducts, ability to hang the unit from the ceiling joists using hangers and all thread, or on a wall using lag bolts. The unit can be mounted outside under a large overhang which prevents it from being rained on. It can also be mounted horizontal, vertical, face up or face down.
Once mounted start running the lines for outside install, cutting 2 six inch diameter holes to the exterior for the intake and discharge lines. The discharge line will run to 2 ft above the bottom roof line. So reflect on the appearance of that line and get approval from the owner. The inlet and outlet do not have to be in the same area but the minimal amount of line distance to and from the unit is preferred.
To attach the PVC to the unit run 2 wraps of electrical tape around the discharge port creating a tight fit to the 6 inch PVC and then attach with small sheet metal screws provided.
In an open unfinished basement running the lines is fairly fast and easy. Consideration should be to run them as direct as possible with supports provided to optimize distance, restrictions, and bends.Insulated 6 in. duct is for treated air running from the unit to the ceiling discharge. Flexible and semi ridged can be used for all the following ports.
Exhaust discharge of contaminated air should be run in accordance with your state law. Ohio requires 2 foot above eve line and 10 foor form windows and doors. Ohio also requires no cover on the discharge pipe. If this is the case a ¼ in drain hole should drilled at the lowest point in the PVC. Standoffs for discharge pipe are included.Inlet air is provided a 6 in. chrome cover with screen.
Electrical The units are supplied as 220V with a low wattage requirement. In case 220 is not conveniently available a 110 to 220 voltage converter is provided. The monitor display comes pre-wired and can be placed in any convenient location for easy viewing.
NOTE: The outbound air ports and the incoming air ports are clearly marked. Because they cross over inside the ERV, it can confuse the installer. Just check the labels at each port and you can't go wrong.
